What books have you read that you hate to admit reading?
I am, generally speaking, a fairly literate person. I think it comes with majoring in English - you have to read so many books and, if you're lucky and in a quality English program, you'll be exposed to books you would have never picked up on your own. For me, it was people like poet Wislawa Syzmborska and Issac Bashevis Singer.
But. That being said, I also know enough English major type people who have literary skeletons in their closet. I mean, you can't always read Nobel prize winning literature. For me, it's always been Jackie Collins. I read "Hollywood Wives" in 5th or 6th grade (it was my mother's, I stole it from the edge of her bathtub). Of course, after that you get completely sucked in. "Hollywood Husbands," "Bitch," "Lucky," "The World is Full of Married Men." And I mean could you not love a book called "The Stud"? Where the world is full of glamazons and men clad in speedos serving champagne to coked up starlets reading movie scripts and thinking of their far flung childhood on the farm back in Idaho?
I think I've read most of them. I'm not particularly proud of it, but I'll take my brain candy where I can get it.
